In then article it talks about piracy which is becoming a lot more common in today's society. This is leading to business failure for new and upcoming artists. The fact that technolgy nowadays is so advanced it means that consumers can get by without purchasing any music and manage to get it for free.
Music isn't produced for free. It costs a lot for artists to produce and distribute there music. At a steriotyprical view people think that only greedy rock stars care about piracy and that it not the case. Lily Allen argued that digital piracy means that its all freen and therefore younger artists would never get a chance to make a living as there would be no income even if the song was great!
Noel Gallagher was more blunt about the situation 'The consumer says 'Wheres my free music on the Internet? Is this a free download?' Fuck off! It cost me a quarter of a million to make it, you're not getting it for nothing. I want my quarter of a million back, thank you very much. That's why we're rock stars.
When we are thinking about our music video which we are going to produce in the near future, we have lots of things to consider. We need to consider how we would distribute it. The Internet is the cheapest and most convenient way but it seems to be costing a lot as it may mean that we would make no money from it and that consumers would download it for free. Yet selling videos and music on a CD just doesn't work anymore due to technolgy being so easy to use.
As its so easy to use and consumers have the choice of either paying or not, why would they choose to pay. Noel Gallagher also went on to say that tours are a lot longer now which is due to the fact of that being the best way to earn money. Billy Corgan says 'if your really good they'll come' which means that you have to make a bond with your fans.
